Benefits of Buying Z1 products from Tarmac Sportz
Arguably the most annoying part failure that occurs on the Nissan Z, 350Z, 370Z, and Infiniti G35, G37 models is the rear differential bushings.
These bushings are used on the front mount ears as well as the rear subframe mount and secure the differential to the subframe assembly. When these bushings wear out, the excessive play allows the differential to twist under load which can result in wheel hop, increased chassis vibration, damage to the rear differential cover, and excessive axle wear.
While the front differential bushings require little effort to replace, the rear bushing is pressed into its steel subframe. This steel-sleeved, liquid-filled bushing could be the most difficult bushing to remove from your vehicle without the proper tools. Most conventional bushing presses either lack the proper attachments or cannot be configured to fit the space available without removing the subframe.
If you have ever attempted rear diff bushing replacement you have more than likely spent hours of sawing and burning to prepare the subframe and sleeve for the new bushing. We designed this tool as a time-saving solution for professional and shade tree mechanics alike. Z1's Bushing Removal Tool provides the best solution requiring the least amount of time for the removal process.
This tool will allow you to remove the damaged OEM to fit a more suitable Z1 Motorsports, Energy Suspension, Whiteline, or SPL bushing.
Using The Tool
Replacing these bushings can be a difficult task since they are pressed into the rear subframe assembly prior to its installation during the cars initial assembly. The Z1 Differential Bushing Removal Tool was designed to allow the everyday enthusiast to service their rear differential bushings without removing the entire rear subframe assembly from the rear of the car.
The Z1 Bushing Tool is machined from of durable 4130 Alloy Steel and yellow zinc plated for long service life. Two separate plates are included, allowing you to press the bushing and sleeve out of the subframe in separate pieces.
We have also chosen to machine a small lip inside the center of the tool body that allows the tool to sit flush on the back of the subframe without 'walking', making bushing removal even easier!
In addition, two rods are included. The smaller rod is used to remove the rubber bushing from the outer sleeve, while the larger rod is used to remove the outer bushing sleeve from the steel subframe. These hardened steel rods and hardware are sturdy but will wear over time. The tolerances between the bushing and the subframe are exceptionally tight and after repeated use may break. If you intend on using this tool on a frequent basis, we recommend purchasing additional hardware
Inspecting Your Differential Bushings
A basic visual inspection of your rear differential bushings can be a good indication of their condition. This can be completed in your driveway within a matter of minutes.
Because the OEM differential bushings are a silicone-filled unit, traces of this silicone can be found on the rear subframe assembly and differential cover after failure. Cracking can also typically be seen around the outside of the bushing, and the center mount sleeve may appear to be 'sagging' or appear offset towards the bottom of the subframe.
