Benefits of Buying Z1 products from Tarmac Sportz
Z1's Competition Big Brake Kit for the 370Z and G37 is a comprehensive brake upgrade targeted at providing the highest level of braking performance. This brake upgrade provides outstanding stopping power and performs well in a variety of driving situations, from normal street driving to HPDE and competition use.
THE CALIPERS
Z1's Competition Calipers were designed using cutting-edge 'Generative Design' software. This allows the designer to take a non-traditional approach to the design of the calipers by adding material only where it needs to be to meet the desired strength and rigidity. This results in a unique caliper shape, exceptional rigidity, and low weight when compared to other calipers of their type. The calipers are machined from high-grade aerospace aluminum billets and include high-tensile cross-bolts, enhancing their strength and rigidity. All seals are manufactured from a proprietary high-temperature seal polymer, ensuring durability even at extreme temperatures. Internal wiper seals provide extra protection for critical pressure seals against dirt, brake dust, and other debris. Hand-polished stainless steel pistons aid in the reduction of heat transfer to critical seals and fluid, extending seal life and maintaining lower fluid temperatures. Our caliper pistons are manufactured from a special grade of stainless steel that is more than twice as strong as regular 304-grade (in terms of yield and ultimate tensile strengths), while maintaining the same levels of corrosion resistance. Our calipers also feature internal fluid crossovers and recessed stainless steel bleed screws for protection against impact damage from rocks and other road debris. An added feature of the calipers is the inclusion of our MTR system. The system provides a permanent record of the maximum operating temperature reached by the caliper and is recorded on the rear of the caliper body. This feature provides valuable data in the support of brake fluid and pad choices.
Calipers are available in one of two finishes:
*Note: These types of anodize is extremely sensitive to some chemicals found in wheel and brake cleaners. This WILL result in a change of color if aggressive chemicals are used. To prevent color change we recommend cleaning calipers and wheels only with mild car wash soap.
THE PADS
Included with this kit is one of two brake pad compounds, designed to offer two different levels of performance. Each pad is designed for a specific type of driving, so be sure to read the pad descriptions below before making a selection.
Street: Our street compound is a high-friction, low-met material. It is a very good all-around high-performance street pad that offers a relatively high friction coefficient and good fade resistance in high-performance street applications. Pad wear life is good and the pad is operationally quiet for a performance pad at this level. The friction material surfaces are scorched at the factory, significantly reducing the on-car bed-in time required.
Track: This compound offers the highest level of brake performance and fade resistance. It has a slightly rising torque curve and modulation remains excellent. A mechanical retention system is employed between the pad backing plate and the friction material for maximum shear resistance during high-temperature use. Track-day users will really appreciate the characteristics, performance and wear life that this compound offers.
While it can be used to drive to and from the track, some brake noise will be experienced during street driving. It is not recommended that this pad material be used for extended daily street use as accelerated disc wear and brake noise will be experienced during daily street driving.
THE ROTORS
Specifically designed for use in high-performance applications, the rotors feature numerous enhancements that make them an impressive candidate for street and track use. Larger 370mm semi-floating 2-piece rotor assemblies feature high-density directional cooling vanes with billet aluminum hats. The semi-float system allows the rotor ring to expand and contract radially without any restriction as it heats and cools. This significantly reduces stresses within both the disc friction ring and the disc hat and reduces the chance of disc distortion and cracking, while ensuring a very consistent brake pedal feel. After machining, all four rotors are chemically de-greased and coated with a proprietary black surface coating. This prevents contamination of the brake pads after installation and ensures the brakes are capable of performing at their highest level right out of the box.
Additionally, these rotors feature a unique Maximum Temperature Recording (MTR) System that allows the user to view a permanent record of the peak operating temperature reached by the rotors. This information is extremely valuable when selecting the correct pad compounds for your application. The thermal-paint tabs are applied to the outside diameter of all four rotors. Each single-change paint color (4-levels: Blue, Green, Orange, and Pink) changes when a specific temperature is reached, thereby providing a record of the peak operating temperature of the disc.
MTR Guide: Blue turns brown at 527 F (275 deg C). Green turns white at 860 F (460 deg C). Orange turns yellow at 1,022 F (550 deg C). Pink turns white at 1,166 F (630 deg C).
